I went to this slightly unusual bakery and restaurant that just opened on September 1, 2023.
The first floor is the bakery, the second floor is the kitchen, and the third floor is the restaurant. It’s a four-story store with a garden on the rooftop.
This time, we visited on a sunny spring day. We bought bread on the first floor and enjoyed it on the rooftop, a luxurious experience.

Beautiful bakery breads

When you step into the shop on the first floor, the first thing you see is the bread display shelves, which are just like those in a museum.
Instead of being displayed on trays like in a regular bakery, the bread is carefully displayed one by one on showcase-like shelves, making the bread look like a work of art.
There is such a wide variety that it’s hard to decide which one to choose.
Not only bread, but cheese, vinegar, salt, tea, etc. are also lined up, so it’s fun to imagine “this bread will definitely go well with that bread.”

Very popular! Cute looking bean paste butter roll

This time I bought the popular “An Butter Roll.”
It’s a square of butter sandwiched between two pieces of bread, and I was excited by how big and cute it looked.
When you warm it up a little, the butter melts and blends perfectly with the sweetness of the bean paste. I’ll definitely be buying this again.
By the way, there was also brioche on display. It
is said that the “sweets” in the famous idiom “If there’s no bread, eat sweets” actually refer to brioche (though there are various theories…).

The excitement grows with each step you take

After buying bread on the first floor, you climb the stairs to the rooftop, where you’ll see farm tools on display on the walls and a small window revealing the greenery outside.
The interior is lovely, reminiscent of modern art, yet also shows respect for agriculture.

Relax in the spring sunshine at the rooftop garden

When we went out onto the rooftop, we were greeted by the warm weather and pleasant breeze of spring.
There were about nine chairs available, and from there we could see the Sumida River, Kiyosubashi Bridge, and Shin-Ohashi Bridge.
On the day I visited, tourist boats were passing by on the river, and the relaxing scenery was soothing.
There are many plants on the rooftop, making it feel like a small garden. It’s really luxurious to relax here with some bread and tea.

Summary: A hidden gem that’s a must-see for bread and nature lovers
I never thought there would be a place in the middle of the city where I could relax and enjoy nature and bread.
The bread was delicious, the space was comfortable, and the view from the rooftop was special in every way.
On a sunny day, why not come and relax on the rooftop with a piece of bread in hand?
A slightly extraordinary experience is sure to await you.
